A Delft tribute to Vermeer

From March 1 to June 1, 2025, the Vermeer Centrum Delft will host the temporary exhibition ‘Vermeer by a new generation’. Students from Atelier Sint Lucas in The Hague are showing a special collection of small, refined works inspired by Vermeer's masterful painting. From detailed studies to modern interpretations, the exhibition illustrates how his legacy lives on in today's art.

Atelier Sint Lucas was co-founded by Delft artist Arjan van Gent and named after the Lucas Guild, to which Vermeer once belonged. The studio has offered classical art education for 25 years, combining traditional techniques with contemporary perspectives. As one of twelve Master painters, Arjan van Gent played a prominent role in the Dutch TV program “The New Vermeer,” in which some of his students also participated. They collaborated on the episode about 'The Second Street' and presented their own free interpretations of Vermeer's work. Van Gent also reconstructed 'Venus, Jupiter and Mercury,' for which Pip Greenaway - daughter of filmmaker Peter Greenaway - was the model. This work will now be given a permanent place in the Vermeer Centrum Delft.

The new temporary exhibition consists of 41 works and can be seen on the second floor of the Vermeer Centrum Delft.
