Vermeer's Guitar Player: forgery or original? Lecture at the Vermeer Center Delft

On Friday evening, September 13 at 8 p.m., Arie Wallert (professor emeritus at the University of Amsterdam) and Joris Dik (professor at TU Delft) will give a lecture in the Vermeer Center Delft about their research into the two paintings of a 'Guitar Player' by Johannes Vermeer. Entrance is free - register in advance, because the number of places is limited!

The Guitar Player is a special painting that shows Vermeer's talent for masterfully capturing everyday scenes and the beauty of music. The Philadelphia Museum of Arts has owned Vermeer's The Guitarist since 1917. At least, that's what they thought. In 1928, another version of the painting suddenly appeared in London. This English version is in much better condition and is therefore considered an original by Vermeer. The painting in Philadelphia has since been dismissed as a forgery. But, is that true?
The results of the archival research and electron microscopy work are the focus in this extremely fascinating lecture.

Entrance is free. Reservations required (only 80 places) via info@vermeerdelft.nl. The center is open that evening from 7.45 pm. The lecture is in Dutch.
