Delft and Vermeer, two iconic names that are inextricably linked. The Vermeer Center Delft, in collaboration with Delft Marketing, presents Vermeer Recycle, a unique project that highlights Vermeer's legacy in a contemporary way.

In 2023, Delft Marketing launched the campaign "Discover Vermeer's Delft", in which photographer Caroline Sikkenk made modern interpretations of Vermeer's paintings, such as 'Girl with a Pearl Earring', enriching the city. After the success of the campaign, the used flag fabric was transformed into trendy bags by the Stunt sewing studio in Delft, known for their skills in upcycling (transforming used materials and objects into new and usable items). Six contemporary fashion designers gave the banners a second life by transforming them into fantastic designs. Caroline Sikkenk took new photos showing these creations at historic locations in Delft. So she also recycles: her previously taken Vermeer photos.

This unique convergence of fashion, photography and heritage highlights the timeless inspiration of Vermeer's work and the continued evolution of creativity. It is a celebration of Vermeer's legacy with modern interpretations, and a statement about sustainability and creative recycling.
The project is a tribute to the inseparable bond between Delft and Vermeer. It celebrates heritage, innovation and sustainability in a beautiful and inspiring exhibition, on display from March 22 to May 22 at the Vermeer Center Delft.
